Beyond the Snapshot
Discovering the Hidden Energies of Sacred Travel
Traveling to far-flung places around the world is one of the things that truly makes me happy. I love exploring different countries, getting to know them by visiting sacred sites, and savoring their local delicacies. For me, this is the best way to connect with the people and their culture.
Traveling with one of my past husbands, who was German, was quite an experience. He had a list of famous monuments and must-see places. His approach—true to the German love of efficiency—was what I called “drive-bys.” We’d drive to a destination, snap a photo, and then move on to the next spot. It was fast and furious, with little time for wandering or truly soaking in the surroundings. In the evenings, we’d hunt for the perfect sunset spot.
I remember one time zig-zagging up and down a mountain, searching for just the right view. Looking back, it was pretty intense. While I appreciated seeing so much of the world with him, I often felt unsatisfied with how we traveled.
Now that I’m older, my approach to travel has changed dramatically. Instead of taking photos to prove I was there, I focus on experiencing the energetic qualities of the places I visit.
What does that mean?
For me, sacred sites are special not just because of their art, architecture, or history, but because they hold spiritual energies. When you tune into these energies, they can raise your vibration and help heal your energetic body.
To explain this, it helps to know that sacred sites often have an overall energy field—an aura—that some people can perceive. This aura is colored, offering clues about the spiritual qualities of the place, often reflecting the colors of the rainbow. For example, a church dedicated to Mary might have a green aura, inviting visitors to experience the loving, nurturing energy of the Madonna.

Green auras help open the heart to a deeper kind of love—one that transcends the self and embraces all living beings. Feeling this heart-opening energy is truly wonderful. It deepens your appreciation for the world and reminds you that you are part of something much larger than yourself.
Light blue is another common color found in temples and churches, linked to the throat chakra—the gateway to spiritual connection. When this chakra opens, many people find themselves moved to tears, overwhelmed by a sense of oneness with the Universe, Source, All That Is, or God—a gift from the heavens.
Dark blue and violet often blend together in sacred places associated with the third eye chakra. These sites help clear your inner sight and open your energetic body to commune with higher realms.
Visiting a new sacred structure is like embarking on a treasure hunt. You never know what surprises await. Sometimes, there are disappointments—like a cell tower nearby contaminating the energy, or centuries of renovations that have dulled the site’s original vibrancy. But there are also wonderful surprises: a long-forgotten menhir embedded in a tiny chapel’s walls, a sparkling energy at the altar, or a man-made hollowed stone that vibrates through your whole body when the right note is struck.
What I discovered there surprised me. The stones were indeed connected to fertility, and nearby was an ancient spring, adding to the sacredness of the place. As I stood there, tuning into the energies with my body, I felt an opening and softening in my pelvis—like my body was preparing for birth. It was a sensation I had only experienced during childbirth itself. That moment deepened my appreciation and wonder for the technology and spiritual wisdom of Neolithic people.

Since then, I’ve found a few other ancient sites linked to childbirth, and they all evoke the same profound feeling.
Traveling with this deeper awareness has transformed my journeys into soulful explorations that nourish both body and spirit. If you feel called to experience the magic of sacred sites beyond the usual tourist snapshots, I warmly invite you to join us on one of our upcoming sacred site tours. Together, we’ll slow down, tune in, and discover the hidden energies and timeless wisdom these places hold. It’s a journey not just of the eyes, but of the heart and soul—and I can’t wait to share it with you.
Warmly,
Karen
